Science refers to a system of acquiring knowledge. This system uses observation and experimentation to describe and explain natural phenomena.

Science also refers to the organized body of knowledge people have gained using that system. Less formally, the word science often describes any systematic field of study or the knowledge gained from it.

Science Department Mission Statement: To create a district-wide learning community, to support literacy through high academic achievement of the science learning standards.

In the Buffalo Public Schools [BPS], curriculum is based on a response to four essential questions. These are:
  • What do we want a student to know and be able to do?
  • How will we know if s/he’s learned it?
  • What will we do if s/he hasn’t learned it?
  • What will we do if s/he has?
