Teaching and Learning

The Buffalo City School District ensures high  academic achievement for all students through instruction grounded in an evidentiary base of scientific research that supports best practices in teaching and learning.  We also offer unique programs to provide students with rigorous academics and specialized career opportunities.

Instruction is the primary business of the Division of Teaching and Learning.  Instructional directors and supervisors provide the leadership and vision for educational programs in Buffalo Public Schools. This site will introduce you to the key instructional leaders in the division as well as provide links to the Departments within the Division of Teaching and Learning.

Art Education
The Buffalo Public Schools (BPS) Art Education Department's mission is to encourage and cultivate a life-long love, respect and appreciation for the Visual Arts.

Career & Technical Education (CTE)
CTE pograms integrate rigorous academics with relevant career and technical skills as well as work place attitudes and behaviors.

Early Childhood
Early literacy begins with the Pre-K program offered in Buffalo Public Schools. 

English Language Arts
This site provides parents, teachers, and students with information and resources related to reading and language arts instruction.  The instructional guides outline whole group and small group modules for teachers. 

Guidance, Counseling & Alternative Education
This site provides information about the National College Fair, Scholarships, and The Buffalo Employment and Training Center (B.E.T.C.).

Health and Physical Education
A comprehensive school health program is an organized set of policies, procedures and activities designed to protect and promote the health and well-being of students and staff which includes health services, healthful school environment and health instruction.

Library Studies
The Library Department provides leadership and direction to the overall library media programs in all Buffalo Public and Private Schools.

Mathematics
This site serves as a springboard for information regarding mathematics in Buffalo Public Schools.  Instructional Guides provide Key Concepts, Grade Level Pacing Plans, BPS Curriculum Alignment to NYS Mathematics Core Curriculum, and Assessment Regulations & Guidelines.

Multilingual Education 
Instructional Guides provide an overview of Key Concepts, Standards, Suggested Activities, Differentiation Ideas and Assessment Guidelines for bilingual, English as a second language (ESL), and foreign language instruction.

Music
Visit this site to learn more about Music in Our Schools Month.  Concerts are scheduled all over the city of Buffalo featuring students from Buffalo Public Schools.

Science

Social Studies
