Practices and Routines
1. Morning Meeting is a daily gathering of the whole class to “get to know each other” through activities fostering self-esteem and social skills.
2. Sharing Times are group gatherings held to share and discuss work and concerns with an emphasis on speaking and listening skills, as well as student evaluation.
3. Conflict Resolution is the teaching and development of skills to handle conflicts through negotiations and compromises.
4. Daily Periodic “Breaks” allow the children to move about physically and to relax. This can include yoga like stretching, singing, movement games, breathing exercises, etc.
5. “Alone Zone” is a prepared spot in the classroom furnished with some quiet activities. The child can calmly be removed from the classroom situation to the alone zone in order to reflect and regroup. (“You need to be away from other students. When you feel you can handle , you may return.”)
6. Periodic Review of the Classroom models and teaches the children organization by maintaining an attractive and well-organized classroom.
