STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In order to produce a school environment that promotes high expectations and foster a culture of respect, all members of the school community must work together.  We all have rights, but with rights come responsibilities.  A lack of responsibility means a diminishment of rights.

Student Responsibilities

•    Follow school rules and regulations.
•    Work hard to do my best in class.
•    Discuss with my parents what I am learning in school.
•    Have a positive attitude towards myself, others, school, and learning.
•    Respect the cultural differences of other students, their families and staff.
•    Work to resolve differences in positive ways, nonviolent ways.
•    Come prepared with my homework and supplies.

Staff Member Responsibilities

•    Foster and maintain high standards of academic achievement and positive behavior.
•    Respectfully and accurately inform parents of their child’s progress.
•    Have high expectations for myself, students, and other staff.
•    Respect the cultural differences of students, their families, and other staff.
•    Help students resolve conflicts in positive, nonviolent ways.

Parent/Caregiver Responsibilities

•    Respectfully and accurately discuss your child’s progress with school staff.
•    Remember that the primary responsibility for a child’s behavior rests with the child and his parents.
•    Foster and maintain high standards of academic achievement and positive behavior.
•    Spend time each day monitoring my child’s learning by checking homework, reading with them, listening or just talking.
•    Inquire as to how my child is progressing by attending conferences, looking at my child’s schoolwork, or calling the school.
•    Make sure my child is on time for school and attends regularly.
•    Respect, love and encourage my child’s growth and creativity
•    Help my child resolve conflicts in positive, non-violent ways.
