June 2, 2010

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The end of the school year is fast approaching. There is still some testing that needs to be completed for some grade levels. In addition, a number of end-of-the year activities have  been planned. The listing of events at the end of this letter is the most up-to- date listing of these tests and events.

Phase IV Reconstruction begins on the Olmsted Middle and High School in July. During the reconstruction students in grades 5, 6, and 7 will be relocated to School 97, the Harvey Austin School.  Students in grades 8-11 will be relocated to School #11. A walk-through at School #11 was held last week. A walk-through for parents of students entering grades 5-7 will be held on Saturday June 5th from 10:30 until noon at Harvey Austin, 1405 Sycamore Street. This is just a reminder. Letters were sent home with all students about this walk through last week

Olmsted students and teachers received the following recognitions:

·         Grade 4 students Bookmaking was featured in New York State Council for the Arts newsletter

·         Mrs. Burruano received a $5,000.00 grant for health and fitness for Grade 9 heath classes. The grant was awarded at a dinner at the Pearl Street Grill.

·         The Dual Language Immersion Program received an outstanding review in a report filed by the Council of Great City Schools

·         The Student Ambassadors, part of the Safe and Civil Schools Initiative will present their study to Dr. James Williams and Mr. Will Keresztes on Thursday June 3rd at OMHS

A sincere thank you to the Olmsted Parent Teacher Organization for a very nicely done Staff Appreciation Breakfast held on May 27th. Thank you to all parents and special thanks to those parents who planned and set up for the breakfast.
