Roosevelt E.C.C. #65 recently celebrated the grand opening of our new Library Media Center. Over the past school year, the library was completely remodeled, resulting in a beautiful space with new furniture, books and computers. This library was constructed with the help of the historical society, which honored the space as a site where former President Theodore Roosevelt once visited. The PTO sponsored the event on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 where many students and their families came to participate in various fun literacy activities. They were first greeted with Target volunteers who were dressed as their favorite storybook characters such as Mother Goose and The Man in the Yellow Hat. Then they met their local Riverside Librarians who registered each student for a free library card. Local Councilman, Joe Golombek even stopped in to check out the new library and also took some time to talk to the children about his favorite books. The Scholastic Book Fair also gave students a wonderful opportunity to purchase new exciting books of all genres. By the end of the evening, almost 100 free books were distributed to the students. It certainly was a special evening for our school!
