WELCOME TO FIFTH GRADE!
Welcome back to school everyone! We all came back fully rested and ready to learn. Our studies in all subjects are well under way and we have successfully established all routines and procedures for our classrooms and school.
Parents: We have instructed and reminded your child to use the School #81 Planner every day and throughout the day to copy all assignments and homework. These were generously provided to your child from out PTO (Thank you PTO!). The Student Handbook is included in it along with a wealth of other information to be referred to throughout the year. Please check it and review it often and encourage your child to keep it updated and organized to that GOOD HABITS are established NOW! You should also notice that they have homework just about every evening - and many times they need to finish their class work if it was not completed during the school day. Your help at home with this will be greatly appreciated! :o)
We have already DIBELed your child for our records. This is a reading fluency test that is administered district wide. 5th grade students need to be reading 124 words per minute by the end of the year. This data has also been our basis for summer school attendance. You can help at home by having your child read anything orally for speed and accuracy (newspaper, books, magazines, etc.) Practice, practice, practice makes perfect!!
Also, if you have not sent in your child's $15.00 workbook fee (it's for math and also Weekly Reader), please do so ASAP as we need to order them NOW!! Thanks to those who sent it in already :o)
