| Message from the Principal Dear BAVPA Families, We began this school year with great news from the State Education Department. We are considered a “School in Good Standing.” What that means is Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts has met benchmarks for increased student achievement two years in a row. We can’t stop now; being good is okay, but we are on a journey to GREATNESS. Faculty, staff, students, and parents know that our school is one of the best in Buffalo. We must now begin to compare ourselves to other Arts schools across the country and see how we stack up. We must begin to think globally and prepare our students accordingly. Each year will bring about additional changes; as many of you are aware, we now have longer periods for increased time on task. This is something that teachers and parents alike felt was necessary to increase student achievement. Now that the school year is in full swing, I need to remind you of some very important issues: Code of Conduct: Please review the Code of Conduct with your child so everyone understands the school and district rules. Some major areas of concern that should be addressed are cell phones, detentions, and suspensions. If you have any questions about expectations, please call the school to speak with Ms. Covington, Dr. Czarnecki, or Mr. Brown. It is the goal of Arts Academy to keep students focused on academic success. Any student whose behavior interferes with the learning of others must understand that there will be consequences for those actions. Attendance: It is very important for students to come to school every day and to be on time for school. Students that arrive late are issued detention. In addition, students who leave school or are absent from a class without permission will be referred to their Assistant Principal and face disciplinary action. PTSO: Our new PTSO is ready to go. Turn to page 3 for your PTSO updates and list of new officers. Thank You: Thanks for all you do as parents and guardians in support of BAVPA. Darren J. Brown, Principal |
