STUDENT ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
Here is a listing of Academic Enrichment Programs that are designed to help high school and junior high school students with academic subjects. These programs have proven to be invaluable to students in getting better grades, gaining access to higher education, and boosting self-esteem. Each program may service different schools. Native American students are encouraged to participate. Contact information for each program is listed below.

II. Buffalo State College – Pre-collegiate Programs
Liberty Partnerships Program
Program Services:
This program is designed to provide encouragement and support for participants to complete their high school programs, enroll in postsecondary education programs, and ultimately achieve success in their career choices. The Liberty Partnerships Program provides job opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students at Buffalo State College who serve as program tutors.
Participants:
The program provides tutoring, mentoring, personal and family counseling, home visits, and enrichment activities for students in grades five through twelve who meet specific eligibility requirements. Program staff identifies and recruits eligible students who participate in program activities throughout the summer as well as the school year.
Science Technology Entry Program (STEP)
Participants:
Traditionally underrepresented and underserved students enrolled in grades seven through twelve to complete high school courses in science, mathematics and technology and to pursue programs of postsecondary education leading to degrees in mathematics, science, technology and health-related fields.
Program Services:
Program services include enrichment courses in math, science, technology and computing; tutoring; academic advisement; internships; counseling; SAT preparation workshops; college admissions and financial aid seminars; and career planning activities. Program staff provide services during the summer as well as throughout the academic year. The Science and Technology Entry Program offers tutoring positions to undergraduate students in their sophomore through senior years as well as to graduate students at Buffalo State College.
Talent Search
Participants:
Support services and enrichment activities for low-income and first-generation students to increase their chances of entry into college programs.
Program Services:
Program services include counseling, tutoring, study-skills instruction, SAT preparation, college visitations, and assistance with the completion of college admissions and financial aid applications. Program schools include Campus West, and Grover Cleveland, Hutch Tech, Lafayette, McKinley, and South Park High Schools. The Talent Search Program provides both undergraduate and graduate students at Buffalo State College with opportunities to work as tutors.
Upward Bound
Participants:
At-risk students in grades nine through twelve who are from low-income families and/or are potential first-generation college students are eligible to participate in Upward Bound.
Program Services:
The program runs after school and during the summer, and provides academic advisement, study skills instruction, tutoring, and counseling services. These services prepare students for postsecondary enrollment and graduation. Targeted schools include Buffalo Traditional, Grover Cleveland, Hutch Tech, Lafayette, and McKinley high schools. Undergraduate students have the opportunity to secure summer employment.

IV. Youth Leadership Erie County
Youth Leadership Erie County is a nine-month leadership enrichment program. As the future leaders of our community, high school sophomores and juniors across the county are invited to participate. The curriculum builds:
• A foundation of leadership skills development
• Awareness of community issues
• Appreciation for diversity of our metropolitan region
• Commitment to lifelong involvement in community service
The program assembles a diverse group of students who have leadership potential, but who may or may not have had experience in positions of leadership at their schools or in their volunteer work in the community.
