There is an extensive security plan in place for the future reconstruction of City Honors School, and that plan was presented to hundreds of people at a public meeting in the school auditorium.
“The security of students, teachers, staff, and administrators is of the utmost importance, and we’re confident this will maintain a safe and respectful school environment,” said Buffalo Schools Security Director William Jackson.
There are a number of security initiatives being put into place at the future home of City Honors school. They are:
Security cameras: A new security camera and a “auto door lock/buzz in” system to be installed for the main entrance on Masten Avenue. There will also be security monitoring cameras to be installed at the faculty and side entrances.
Lighting: Install and upgrade lighting on the outside of the building, as well as install lighting in the faculty parking lot.
Security Officers: They will be present for all after school athletic practices, activities, and will supervise loading and unloading of all buses. Security will also provide instruction to all students on personal safety awareness.
Doors: There will be entrance/exit alarms on all school doors. The faculty entrance will be equipped with a card reader for entrance and exit.
Lockers: All locks will be upgraded or replaced.
The reconstruction of the City Honors School is expected to be finished by July of 2010.
