Science 8
Welcome to Life Science. We have an exciting year to look forward to. How you achieve success in this class and the goals you want to accomplish is up to you. I will offer you new views and ideas and try to make your learning experience more exciting than you expect! Goals • Understand all living organisms are composed of cells • Understand that a typical cell of any organism contains genetic instructions that specify its traits and that those traits may be modified by environmental influences. • Understand that biological evolution accounts for the diversity of species developed through gradual processes over many generations. • Understand ecology and its integration into the environment. • Understand that the anatomy and physiology of plants and animals illustrate the complementary nature of structure and function. • Understand the physical principles that underlie biological structures and functions. Objectives • Students will participate in team activities, class discussions, and team and individual lab work. • Students will be able to select the appropriate tools and technology (including calculators, computers, balances, spring scales and microscopes) to perform tests, collect data, and display data. • Students will be able to communicate the logical connection among hypotheses, science concepts, tests conducted, data collected, and conclusions drawn from the scientific evidence. • Students will be able to communicate the steps and results from an investigation in written reports and oral presentations.
