    You must participate in Open Enrollment if you want to:

     

    • Enroll in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for 2023 - Must be re-elected annually!

     

    • Add or remove a dependent (verification required)

     

    • Change your health care plan 

     

    • Update your life insurance beneficiary

    1. I’m happy with my current health insurance plan. Do I need to do anything? 

    No action is needed.  Your current health insurance plan will roll over to the 2023 plan.   

     

     

    1. If I am not happy with my current health insurance plan, what do I do?   

    Visit www.buffaloschools.org/benefits >Open Enrollment >Active Employee Benefits.  Here you will find an easy-to-use checklist and your health insurance comparison charts by clicking on your union’s page.  If you have access to health insurance through another source, submit a health insurance waiver form to receive annual financial compensation. 

     

     

    1. What is a Flexible Spending Account (FSA)? 

    Flexible Spending Accounts allow you to set aside tax-free money, then use that money when you have certain everyday expenses, such as daycare, elder care, and health care.  BPS offers you two FSAs: a health care FSA and a dependent care FSA. More information is available on the Open Enrollment page associated with your union www.buffaloschools.org/benefits.  You must enroll in your FSA EVERY YEAR, during open enrollment.

    1. How do I submit my forms? 

    Enrollment forms have been updated to Adobe Sign and should be submitted electronically.  Printed forms will be accepted via email Benefits@Buffaloschools.org or fax at 716-851-3587. DO NOT SEND VIA PONY. Applications received December 1st or later will be returned to the employee and will not be processed. 

     

     

    1. What happens if I miss the Open Enrollment period?  

    You must wait to make changes to your health insurance or enroll in a flexible spending account until the next open enrollment period 

     

     

    1. Am I eligible for a Commuter Benefit Plan (CBP)? 

    The commuter benefits plan allows you to set aside money – tax-free – for mass transit and parking expenses associated with your employment.  Members of BCSA, BEST, PCTEA, and Exempt Administrators are eligible for this benefit.
