    My Philosophy of Education

Middle school students are my favorite group of students to work with for so many reasons.  Not only do I get to introduce them to science in a broad range of topics (Chemistry, Physics and Biology to name a few), but I also have them transition into young adults.  We work every year to embrace lessons in both science, academics and life! This might mean we learn about the scientific method, but also learn strategies to study new topics in any class.  Every year I focus on educating the 'whole individual.'  I hope students leave my room with a new interest in science, a set of skills to help them find success in all subjects and any place they may learn something new, as well as some life lessons in interacting with peers, adults, and their world.

“How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.” ~George Washington Carver

Why I Do What I Do

I love working with kids. I started tutoring on the East Side at Friends to the Elderly Community Center as a college student at Canisius. I worked with students of all ages. I continued working with students as a teaching assistant in my organic chemistry class at Canisius.  I have worked here at Frank A. Sedita Elementary since 2004 when it was originally known at PS#38.  I am happy to call Sedita my home, but have also taught in various other Buffalo Public Schools during the summer to help Regents Biology students in review before summer exams.

In addition to working with kids and loving the city of Buffalo I also really love science!

I Grew Up . . . in Amherst, New York. I have always loved living in Buffalo because my family is here and all of the great things I grew up with!

My Hobbies include spending time with my family and friends, especially our newest family member, my son, Van.  I love exploring the world with him, because everything is new to him--even the dog's water dish!  I enjoy the warm weather and love to go to Canalside in Buffalo to participate in the activities they have to offer, or enjoy the delicious food at restaurants in the city of Buffalo.

    Favorite Books

I have been pretty busy lately with my son, but I do keep track of books I've read or would like to read via the following app/website.  The last book I read was the final of the Divergent series.  I love to read a good book before seeing the movie!
