About Ms. Pacifico
-
Ms. Pacifico teaches English as a Second Language to students from all around the world. Since 2008, she has had a wide variety of teaching assignments at School #18, Riverside High School, STAR Academy at International Preparatory High School and Newcomer Academy at Lafayette High School. Some of her additional teaching experiences include: an ESL After-School Program, Jump Start Program, the Saturday Newcomer Program, an Intensive English camp in South Korea, Our Lady of Black Rock School, and the 21st Century After-School Program.
Ms. Pacifico earned her B.A. in Political Science and Spanish from the University at Albany. Her experiences in language immersion programs in Madrid and Beijing have helped her to better understand the difficulties associated with second language learning. After working with English language learners as a teacher aide, she decided to pursue an M.S. in TESOL at Fredonia State College. During her graduate program she worked as a graduate assistant for the College of Education, and upon completion began teaching ESL at Buffalo Public School #18.
Ms. Pacifico's philosophy of teaching largely stems from her experiences as a learner. Since students learn best when they are actively involved in their own learning and when information is interesting and meaningful to them, she aims to appeal to students' different learning styles and actively seeks out professional learning opportunities in order to stay informed on current research and best practices. According to Ms. Pacifico, "Teachers that strive for excellence should not limit their goals to just short term completion of standards set out by a prescribed set of curricula, but also aid in the personal development of students as whole beings. The combination of long term and short term goals is what, I believe, make an educator truly extraordinary."
In Ms. Pacifico's free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends, watching movies, reading, listening to music, gardening, and yoga.
