BUFFALO PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT PROTOCOL
Electronic (E-Waste) Recycling Procedure
The Buffalo Public School District has the responsibility to ensure that all electronic assets are disposed of in an environmentally safe manner per NYS Law. We have an agreement with a 3rd Party that is Certified in Responsible Recycling and complies with Recycling Industry Operating Standards.
FROM 2013 to 2018
OVER 150 TONS
OF E-WASTE MATERIAL
FROM THE DISTRICT
HAS BEEN RECYCLED!!!
District Protocol for E-Waste Disposals:
Before you request a pick up, get Approval First! The Department or School in which the equipment was purchased for will detemine if/when the asset will be disposed/recycled. This determination is made based upon these factors: if the device is broken beyond repair or repairs exceed the cost of a replacement, the device is considered obsolete and the device's operating systems or platforms that are no longer supported by the department.
How to Request an E-Waste Pick Up:
Once Department/School approval has been made, a SchoolDude ticket should be submitted, choosing the "Move" or "Pick up" option. All materials determined for recycling are to be staged at the District’s Central Recycling Location, currently Building #187 in the basement. Our Recycling Vendor accepts a wide range of materials for e-waste recycling - Please see the attachment below for the detailed list of acceptable materials.
Small Scale disposals are initiated when School Administration (or designee) submits a SchoolDude Work Order Ticket to request a pick up of broken, obsolete or unneeded technology assets. The Service Center Pick up (Dispatch) Team will pick up the materials at the School and bring it to the Central Recycling Location.
Large scale disposals are initiated when the IT department makes a determination that certain asset groups will no longer be supported by the District based upon age of asset, operating system or platform. The IT department working with AIS (and at times the Service Center) arranges to have these assets delivered to the Central Recycling Location.
The Audit Inspector will contact the Recycling Vendor to facilitate the pick up of the materials at the Central Recycling Location. In general, pick up's from our Recycling Vendor occur on a quarterly basis.
BE COGNIZANT OF WHAT YOU THROW OUT IN THE TRASH AND ALWAYS RECYCLE WHEN YOU CAN!
