2021 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)
This year the Buffalo Public Schools will once again be conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) for all students in grades 6-12. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this survey. The survey is completely anonymous and confidential.
Buffalo Public Schools' Department of Social Emotional and Wellness Supports has conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) every odd year since 2011. The information gathered from students in Grades 6-12 will be used to improve health and well-being for our students. The YRBS was developed to monitor health behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death, disability, and social problems among youth in the US.
Why the Youth Risk Survey is being taken?
There are many benefits of collecting this type of data from Buffalo Public School students, particularly to identify (by school, by age, by sex, etc.) areas of greatest need for health programs and services. This data will assist the District and your school’s Whole Child Well- Being Team in creating programs that address the needs of student and families they serve as well as in monitoring progress toward achieving health objectives and improved academic outcomes.
The BPS Whole Child Advisory Board, its standing whole child health committees, Parent Congress health committees and school community partners can review the data; compare Buffalo’s data with other local student data and existing resources, and research potential approaches to meet unaddressed needs. These committees, with participation of board members, staff, families and community agencies and individuals, will make recommendations to the Board in an advisory capacity based on their research.
