Part 1: iPad Skills (Assessments & Instruction) 1 day
Lesson Objectives:
1. Students will complete a skills based assessment consisting of multiple step processes to demonstrate their current level of skill using an iPad.
2. Students will learn basic navigational skills on the iPad and will successfully use these skills to create a digital note with appropriate name and format.
Preparation:
Print out Pre-Assessment form for classroom teacher to enter tally marks (2 copies)
Sign teacher up for Socrative account and import knowledge check quizzes

Engage:
Introduce self(ITC) & project. Discuss importance of/reason for Media Release form.
Discuss:
- Care and handling of iPad
- Clean hands
- No pencils or pens
- Cleans screen with cloths provided
- Purpose and operation of Smart Cover (Smooth side out to keep clean) & how to set up ergonomics
- Precautions (Center of desk, two hands)
- Don’t carry iPad by smart cover
- Procedures for hand out and hand in
We will distribute an iPad to each student in the class. (Students will receive the same iPad each day).
- Review discussion above
- How to turn on/off
Learn and practice safety procedures.

Modeling/Guided Practice:
ITC will model the integral functions of the iPad for student use and give student the opportunity to practice each skill.
- Use of the home button
- Adjusting volume
- Lock Rotation/mute switch
- Launch Safari – search for an image – save the image – go back to the address – copy – open (Pages/Evernote) – find their notebook – create a note - and paste the URL –
- Rename Document (Room #, Name, Topic) whether in Evernote or Pages
- Gestures (pinch, 4 finger left & right, 4 finger up & down for recent apps, double tap to zoom) 5 fingers to return to home screen)
- Open Google Earth – find a place you would like to visit – take a screen shot
- Open the Photos app to find your screen shot
