Special Education at City Honors School

  • At City Honors School we provide a variety of special education supports and services on the continuum to our students.

    Consultant Teacher (CT) Services are defined as direct and/or indirect services provided to a school-aged student with a disability in the student's general education classroom.  
     
    Direct Consultant Teacher Services is specially designed instruction provided by the special education in the general education setting.

            Indirect Consultant Teacher Services mean consultation provided by the special education teacher to the general education teacher in adjusting the learning environment and/or instructional methods to meet the needs of the student with a disability in the general education setting. 


    Resource Room (RR) is a special education program that provides supplementary instruction in a small group setting for a portion of the school day.

    STARS Program
    The Students with Autism Rising to Success (STARS) Program is comprised of special classes (6:1:1) or (8:1:1) for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in grades 5-12.

    8:1:1 Special Class is a classroom with 8 students, 1 teacher, and 1 teacher assistant.  The students receive a modified general education curriculum that is aligned to the Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS). 

    6:1:1 Special Class is our New York State Alternate Assessment classroom with 6 students, 1 teacher, and 1 teacher assistant.  The students receive instruction based on the New York State Alternate Assessment Learning standards.
