Section 504 - The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The ADA and Section 504 are Federal Laws which affect students with disabilities in the public school setting.
The 504 team makes a determination of whether a student of school age has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of his or her major life activities and entitlement to an appropriate education is impaired by that disability.
A physical or mental impairment under Section 504 and the ADA means:
any Physiological disorder or condition, Cosmetic disfigurement, or Anatomical loss affecting one or more of the following body systems:
Neurological, Musculoskeletal, Special sense organs, Respiratory, Speech Organs, Cardiovascular, Reproductive, Digestive, Genito-urinary, Hemic and Lymphatic, Skin, Endocrine, or any mental or psychological disorder.
