Our class is participating in an exciting program presented by the Erie County SPCA. The purpose of the Encouraging Kind Kids Literacy Program is to connect children's literature to humane education and character education themes. The following good character traits are being examined and discussed through the program: kindness, compassion, empathy, responsibility, honesty, citizenship and respect.
Through the Encouraging Kind Kids Literacy Program each child will receive four free chapter books. The students will receive daily reading assignments and text-based questions for each book. At the end of each book, the students will be responsible for creating a shoebox diorama representing their favorite part of the book. At the end of our program we will be taking a field trip to the Erie County SPCA in the Town of Tonawanda to tour the facility.
