Washington D.C. Trip
As part of our school's participation in the InnovatioNation Program, powered by LifeTechnologies, the fifth grade students and teachers wrote essays about what we learned through the program. These student and teacher essays were submitted to LifeTechnologies as entries for their annual Student Essay Competition and Teacher Essay Competition. The teacher essay I wrote was selected as the local fifth grade teacher essay winner for the Grade Island Site and sent on to the national competition in California. My essay was then selected as the national fifth grade teacher essay winner for InnovatioNation!
For my prize, I won a round-trip, four day, all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C.! My daughter, Morgan, and I traveled to Washington, D.C. this past August to see the high-tech, high intensity exhibit Genome:Unlocking Life's Code presented by LifeTechnologies at the Smithonian National Museum of Natural History. This was a wonderful experience for both of us! (It was my daughter's first trip on an airplane!) Thank you so much to Dr. Phelphs, his amazing colleagues and everyone at LifeTechnologies for this wonderful opportunity! We are looking forward to working with all of you again next year.
