FLUENCY WORK: Students are assigned JOURNEYS Cold Read passages to read aloud and answer short response comprehension questions each week. Our ultimate goal is to build stronger fluency, comprehension and text-based response skills. Fluency assignments are non-negotiable - they must be completed on a daily basis.
Fluency Schedule:
- MONDAY: Students will read the passage twice with a digital timer. Then record the number of read words on the Fluency Record page.
- TUESDAY: Students will read the passage twice with a digital timer and complete the multiple choice Comprehension Questions (#1-4) in their Reading notebook. Then record the number of read words on the Fluency Record page.
- WEDNESDAY: Students will read the passage once with a digital timer and complete the extended response Comprehension Question (#5) in their Reading notebook. Then record the number of read words on the Fluency Record page.
- THURSDAY: Students will read the passage once without a timer and complete the IVF Summary Paragraph form (information – verb – finish your thought). Students must check summary paragraph for correct content and spelling errors.
- FRIDAY: Students will upload Comprehension questions and IVF Summary into the Schoology Fluency folder.
**The passages on the webpage are text only – comprehension questions are not available online. Fluency passages with questions, Fluency Record Sheet, IVF form and looseleaf paper should be kept in the RED Fluency Folder.
