Grade 8 Module 4: Linear Equations

In Module 4, students extend what they already know about unit rates and proportional relationships to linear equations and their graphs. Students understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations in this module. Linear expressions in x are a special type of expression.  Linear expressions are expressions that are sums of constants and products of a constant and x raised to a power of 0, which simplifies to a value of 1.  

 

Non-linear expressions are also sums of constants and products of a constant and a power of x.  However, non-linear expressions will have a power of x that is not equal to 0 or 1.
