Welcome to the Dual Language 3rd grade! 

My name is Marissa López and I am delighted to be your child’s teacher this year!  This is my second year teaching third grade and I can’t wait to work with your child (again)! As many of you know, I was the DL Pre-K teacher from 2006, when I started working in the Dual Language Immersion Program here at Olmsted 64, until June 2021. I have also taught first, second, and fifth grades previously.  

Similar to the rest of the third grade team, I have hands-on and engaging learning planned for this school year that will allow each student to reach his/her highest potential, but uniquely to our dual language program, your child will be learning all the regular third grade curriculum in both Spanish and English, with both languages having an equal amount of time allotted.  

 In NLA/ ELA/Reading your child will learn the skills necessary to be able to read (as a whole group and independently) and understand fiction and non-fiction texts, write short constructed and extended response answers to text-based questions, use correct grammar, and much, much more.  

 In math, your child will be working on arrays, multiplication, addition, subtraction, rounding, estimating, fractions, graphs, and geometry. Please make sure he/she is reviewing 2- and 3- digit addition and subtraction, skip counting, and begin studying multiplication facts over the summer!  

   In Science your child will learn about motion and forces, electricity and magnetism, weather and climate, life cycles, adaptations, and fossils. In Social Studies your child will be learning about communities, economics, government, and citizenship, so ask him/her to pay close attention to the activities and events that take place in our community this summer.

¡Bienvenidos al 3er grado del Programa de Inmersión de Lenguaje Dual! 

¡Mi nombre es Marissa López y estoy encantada de ser la maestra de su hijo/a este año!  ¡Este es mi segundo año enseñando el tercer grado y no puedo esperar a trabajar con su hijo/a (de nuevo)! Como muchos de ustedes saben, fui la maestra de Pre-K DL desde 2006, cuando empecé a trabajar en el Programa de Inmersión Dual aquí en Olmsted 64, hasta el año pasado. También he enseñado primero, segundo y quinto grado anteriormente.  

 Al igual que el resto del equipo de tercer grado, tengo planeado un aprendizaje práctico y atractivo para este año escolar que permitirá a cada estudiante alcanzar su potencial máximo, pero único a nuestro programa de inmersión dual, su hijo/a estará aprendiendo todo el currículo regular de tercer grado tanto en español como en inglés, con ambos idiomas con la misma cantidad de tiempo asignado. 

 En las clases de español, inglés y lectura, su hijo/a aprenderá las destrezas necesarias para poder leer (en grupo y de forma independiente) y comprender textos de ficción y no ficción, escribir respuestas construidas cortas y extendidas a preguntas basadas en el texto, utilizar la gramática correcta, y mucho, mucho más. 

 En matemáticas, su hijo/a trabajará en matrices, multiplicación, suma, resta, redondeo, estimación, fracciones, gráficos y geometría. Por favor, asegúrese de que repase la suma y resta de 2 y 3 dígitos, cuente de 2 en 2, 3 en 3, etc., y empiece a estudiar la multiplicación durante el verano. 

En ciencias, su hijo aprenderá sobre el movimiento y las fuerzas, la electricidad y el magnetismo, el tiempo y el clima, los ciclos de vida, las adaptaciones y los fósiles. En Estudios Sociales su hijo aprenderá sobre las comunidades, la economía, el gobierno y la ciudadanía, así que pídale que preste mucha atención a las actividades y eventos que tienen lugar en nuestra comunidad este verano.
