    Reading can be so much fun when you have a great book!  There are so many types of books to read, where should you start?  What interests you? Do you like mysteries, books about kids your age, sports books?  Are you into poetry, history, fantasy?  I probably have three hundred books of all different genres to share with you.  First you need to figure out what you'd like to read and then what books are at the right level-not too easy and not too hard. I suggest you use the five finger rule I taught you in class. Here are some of my favorites below.

     

Fiction- Newberry Medal Books

  • Because of Winn-Dixie

    This realistic fiction book is a heartwarming story about love, friendship and tolerance. The main characters are a 10 year old girl named Opal and a dog named Winn-Dixie that she found at the grocery store.

  • Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh

    Animanl fantasy and science fiction in this chapter book tells a great story with an interesting plot. Mrs. Frisby is a field mouse who needs to move quickly before the plow comes. Children in fourth-seventh grade will enjoy this book.

  • The Sign of the Beaver

  • Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective (Encyclopedia Brown Series # 1)

    A mystery that is the first of many in a series. The main charaacter is a brainy child detective nicknamed Encyclopedia. He solves cases using clues and observations. Children in second through fifth grade will enjoy this series.

  • Esperanza Rising
