Welcome!
Welcome to Kindergarten! I am so excited to begin a brand new school year and hope that your family is too! We are going to have an exciting and busy year filled with many activities!
I am so glad that your child will be a part of my class. My name is Mrs. Prescott and this is my 20th year of teaching. It's important that we keep the lines of communiction open. Please do not hesitate to contact me via phone call, Class Dojo, note in your child's red folder or email (Jprescott@buffaloschools.org). Also, there will be times when we need parent volunteers to come in and help out, so please let me know if you are available.
As we embark on this new and exciting journey, we encourage you to join our PTO. Parents who are involved in their child's schooling increases the child's motivation for school. Motivated students are more likely to enjoy learning, participate in class, develop confidences in themselves and achieve!
The first few days of school can be a bit scary (but exciting) for children. To ensure a smooth transition, please remember to keep your child's bus tag attached to his or her book bag. When sending money to school, please put it in an envelope and label it with your child's name. Your child should wear sneakers everyday...for Gym as well as outdoor recess. Please make sure your child completes and returns his/her homework packets DAILY. It is important to set routines, set aside time each day to discuss what your child did in school and for completion of homework. Homework will be given everyday so please make sure your child completes and returns his/her homework packet daily. In the homework packet, you will find announcements, assignments and a daily behavior report. In our building, we use a daily behavior chart with four colors- green, yellow, orange and red.
Please send in school supplies as soon as possible. A school supply list was sent home the first week of school. We ask that each family send in a snack once per month. It needs to be enough to feed 25 children. The children enjoy cookies, crackers, goldfish, fruit snacks, raisins, juice boxes, etc.
It is very important to check your child's backpack each day when your child arrives home from school. Your child is very proud to show you what he/she has done at school each day and often times, there are notes for you to read or permission slips for you to sign.
I am thrilled to be working with your Kindergartner this year. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. I am sure this year will prove to be a very special one!
Sincerely,
Jessica Prescott- Room 124
