Course Title: NYS Common Core Mathematics Curriculum Modules  

Description: In order to assist educators with the implementation of the Common Core, the New York State Education Department provides curricular modules in Mathematics that schools and districts can adopt or adapt for local purposes. These modules were designed specifically to aid students’ development and understanding of essential concepts, skills, procedures, and ability to think and reason in various areas such as: number, geometry, measurement, algebra, probability, and statistics. Sixth grade mathematics is about (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking.
