Apple Of Our Eye
Dear Families,
I am excited to announce the weekly feature in our
classroom entitled… Apple Of My Eye! Each child will have
the opportunity to be the Apple of My Eye. Parents will
receive the bag and instructions the Wednesday or
Thursday before their week. PLEASE RETURN THE BAG BY
MONDAY MORNING SO THEY CAN ENJOY THE WHOLE WEEK.
Me Bag
Your child will come home with the special “Apple of my Eye” bag. Please work with your child to have them put only three items in the bag.
Item #1 – A picture of your family (can be included on poster)
Item #2 and #3
CHOOSE 2 ITEMS FROM THIS CATEGORY…
An award
A certificate
A ribbon
A trophy
A picture from a special day, place, or event
An item from a collection
(beanie baby, webkin, army figurine, mathchbox car, etc.)
ALL ABOUT ME POSTER
You and your child will be asked to create an ALL ABOUT ME poster. On this poster you can include pictures, drawings, or anything else that shows who your child is. Include anything special that your child can tell a story about themselves to the class.
Guessing Jar
Feel free to send in items/objects for our guessing jar (a great way for 1st graders to practice the skill of estimation). We have a counting jar at school. This is an optional activity but we would love the chance to practice our math skills. Parents only need to send the items (objects should range from 25 to 100), WITH A REMIND TEXT MESSAGE TO ME TELLING ME THE AMOUNT – please don’t tell your child the exact amount. If you wish, objects may be edible. Ideas for items include, individually wrapped candies, stickers, small dollar store items, bouncy balls, erasers, etc. Please fill the jar with only one kind of item. Please do not mix items. NO PEANUT OR NOT TREE ITEMS
All About Me Paper
Have your child choose an “All About Me” sheet and complete ONLY ONE. Make sure it is complete and COLORED!
“Apple of Our Eye” Letter
This is a parent activity. Parents need to write a letter to their child entitled “___________ is the Apple of My Eye.” Although this letter is written to your child, the teacher will read it, so you don’t have to worry about making the letter something your child can read independently. In the letter you may tell about the day your child was born, share a special story about your child, tell about what makes your child special to you or what makes them a special person. This letter will be read to your child and their classmates during your child’s assigned week.
Please check the dates below to see when you need to send the Apple of Our Eye bag, poster, estimation jar, and “Apple of My Eye” parent letter to school. We will use these items over the course of the week to celebrate your child being the “Apple of Our Eye”.
