Opening Letter

  • "Aim High, Work Smart and Finish Strong."

    Dear Parents or Guardians,

My name is Ms. Clark, and I will be your child's fifth grade teacher this year. I am looking forward to a productive year working with you and your child. Cooperatively we can provide an educational environment which will enhance your child's learning experiences and meet the requirements of The Common Core Learning Standards.

My focus is to encourage your child to assume responsibility for his or her education and become a life-long learner. Aim High, Work Smart, Finish Strong is our class motto. To reach this goal, your child will participate in many reading and informational writing activities throughout the school day. This will encourage your child to read more fluently and think more deeply about a reading passage or story. Your child will be challenged to read independently from textbooks and to consider the plot and theme in novels. Reading will be integrated with science and social studies lessons. In mathematics, the emphasis is generally on math processes that will enable your child to learn multiple strategies to become a proficient problem solver. I will model a positive attitude about mathematics and the importance of mathematics in the real world.

Throughout my years of teaching, I have become committed to the importance of parent involvement in a child's education. I firmly believe that your child receives the best education possible when you and I work together as a team. The class will start homework the second week of school. It is important that your child complete all homework assignments. Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday.

It is important to let me know if your child has any medical problems that can affect his/her daily activities in school like; allergies, hearing, or vision problems,  asthma, etc. It is also important for your child to start each day with a healthy breakfast (at home or school).

We will celebrate attendance, academic success (honor and merit), effort and appropriate class behavior! Our classroom is an on-going learning environment.

I will be keeping in touch with you during the school year. Please do the same for me. I welcome your calls and messages. Anytime you have something you would like to discuss with me, please call the office at 816-4060. I will return your call as soon as possible. I look forward to meeting you and working with your child throughout the school year. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

    Ms. Clark
