Classroom Policies and Procedures
2019-2020 2nd Grade Policies & Procedures
for Mrs. O'Rourke's class room 310
Second Grade attendance records are reported on your child’s permanent record. Timely arrival is important to your child’s school day. All children need to be in the classroom by 9:15 AM. Arrival any time after 9:25 is considered a late arrival. A student that arrives late to school MUST be accompanied to the office to receive a late slip. The late slip goes with the child to his/her teacher. Absences must be excused with a written note that contains your signature and a brief explanation of why your child missed school. If I do not receive a written excuse, the absence will be marked illegal.
Students will be served breakfast in the classroom and lunch daily in the lunchroom. All children are invited to eat breakfast. If your child is a picky eater you may want to send a lunch with your child. If not, lunch is provided. If you would like to send in a snack for the class, please check with me to verify any allergies that we may need to be conscience of.
Germs travel quickly and easily in school! If your child is not feeling well, I ask you to use your best judgment when deciding whether or not to send him/her to school. We always want to see their smiling faces, of course, but if those faces have puffy eyes and runny noses, I would rather your child stay home and receive some TLC from you!
It is imperative that we have the most up to date contact information for you.
Please make sure that we have a current telephone number and address to reach you.
In the case of an emergency, we want to be able to contact you quickly.
All children who ride a bus MUST wear a bus tag. Please do not detach your child's bus tag from their back pack. If you change book bags please put tag on new bag.
Students are dismissed promptly at 3:45 pm. Please be on time to pick up your child. Also, only persons listed on the school form are allowed to pick up your child. In the event that someone else must pick up, please send in a written note and call the school office. Additionally, class is in session until 3:30 pm each day. Please do not come early to pick up your child without prior notice. They will not be ready for dismissal until 3:45.
Sneakers must be worn in daily. We have gross motor each day and your child cannot participate without sneakers. Also, fancy shoes, sandals, or backless shoes are not allowed in school for safety reasons.
We believe that every child deserves special recognition on his/her birthday. We will celebrate each child's birthday in class. If you would like to send in a special treat for the class to share on this day, please just notify the teacher prior to the celebration so that we can make adjustments in our daily schedule.
Your child’s folder will travel back and forth to school with him/her almost everyday. It is extremely important for you to check that folder daily, because there maybe important school notices and information that is sent home and needs to be reviewed. Also, please remove the items that are to be "left at home" and promptly return those that are labeled "bring back."
Homework books will soon come home with your child. I will use this as a communication tool for us to use together to discuss behaviors, progress and any additional important information. Additionally, you will find some homework activities that you can use to support letter knowledge in the home with your child. Each child will only receive one agenda. Please keep it in a safe place and return it to school each day.
Our classroom is full of many new and exciting things for your child. There is no need for toys to be brought to school! We have plenty of fun things to play with in our classroom and I cannot be responsible for personal property that may get broken or go missing. Unless there is a specific special event happening in school at which toys were requested, please leave your toys at home to be enjoyed after school.
If you should have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by email or phone.
