The students in the post-secondary grades participate in a habilitation and treatment program designed to help them transition from school to work. The students participate in academic areas such as English, Math, Science and Social Studies. One of our main focuses in English is decoding words along with reading comprehension. The students also learn a new vocabulary word daily and write a response to a question in their journals. Students are encouraged to form complete and proper sentences. In Math students work on functional skills which involve money and telling time. We also work on basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
The students also work in the community to gain life skills. Students work at Allentown Industries, Brighton Park/People Inc., D’Youville College, Elmwood Ave People Inc., Greenhouse, and Meals on Wheels. These students are exposed to various jobs which in turn helps them have an idea of what they would like to do in their future.
