At this point in your child's school career, many skills have been learned. I am always planning lessons in a scaffolding manner - that means new skills are building on older skills. I believe art has more meaning when it is connected to experiences in the child's life. Some of the lessons I plan are integrated with the social studies, science, math, or english language arts curriculum at their grade level. Your child is being asked to use his or her imagination to reinterpret existing stories, tell stories of their own, use a math concept to create art, or illustrate a scientific fact.
