  • Alfred P. Sloan Foundation- Professional careers in the public sector for minority students. Students desiring internships with the federal government.  Offers positions as staff members on legislative committees, the US Foreign Service and other international affair agencies of the US government.  Visit www.sloan.org/main.shtml to apply.

    American Society of Newspaper Editors- Minority high school seniors who are interested in the field of journalism.  Paid summer internship for minority freshman and sophomores at their hometown or nearby newspaper and $250 bonus if they complete the program.  Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Award $750 Apply at www.asne.org.

    Ciminelli: Sophomores and Juniors:  Buffalo Schools and LP Ciminelli are seeking 10th and 11th graders to participate in their Construction Connections summer program.  This paid internship programs runs from July 12 through August 26, and is for students interested in construction, architecture and engineering.  Participants will shadow LP Ciminelli employees working in a variety of WNY projects & will be exposed to many departments within the company.  This business management program, while focusing on the day-to-day office experience, will allow students to visit field offices and gain firsthand jobsite experience.   

    ECMC: Freshman, Sophomores & Juniors:  ECMC has made applications available for their Summer Youth Program, an opportunity for students interested in medical careers to be placed in hospital-based internships, participate in seminars, mentoring sessions, training in CPR or Injury Prevention.  Students are paid $100/week with perfect attendance and receive meal tickets.  Students work 2 days/week.    Information and applications are available in Guidance.

    Macy's and Bloomingdales's -  Eight to ten week paid internships offered in buying, planning, store management, product development, design and macys.com.  Apply online or visit website for campus recruiting schedule- www.macysjobs.com/college/internships. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement and provide a resume. Award may be used for full time study at any undergraduate college.

    PBS Internships- Various internships are available in different departments.  All paid except for internships in the General Counsel's office.  Award may be used for any undergraduate program of study.     Plumber's & Steamfitters' Apprenticeship Program:  Applications are available in Guidance for a wonderful opportunity for students interested in this field.  Starting pay is about $11.40 with full family health insurance, pension, partial dental & vision insurance, and $50,000 life insurance.  Raises are yearly, progressing to journey worker wages at the end of 5 years. Only two students will be chosen for apprenticeships. 

    The Erie County Clerk's Office seeks bright, motivated, and enthusiastic interns for summer. Students will learn about the daily operations of a government office while gaining valuable insight into the functions of the County Clerk’s Office. Responsibilities will include research, writing and designing of materials, tracking local media, and responding to constituents as well as some administrative duties. An interest in government or politics, public relations or communications will make the ideal candidate.
