political parties
-
Today, two major political parties and several third parties are part of the American political scene. The Democratic Party and the Republican Party are the two most important political parties and the Green Party and Libertarian Party are smaller parties. In this activity you will take a closer look at the history and workings of ONE of these political parties.
https://www.gop.com/ <- Republican Party
http://www.democrats.org/ <- Democratic Party
http://www.gp.org/ <- Green Party
http://www.lp.org/ <- Libertarian Party
Directions
Begin by clicking on the Web site of the political party you have chosen. (You should open it in a new window by right clicking) Now open the political parties assignment on Schoology. The assignment will ask you for the following information:1. Who is the current chairperson of the party?
2. Who founded the party and when was it founded?
3. Name three issues the party is involved with and the party's stand on those issues. A good place to start is the party's platform. This is a document telling you what the party stands for.
Each party's platform is located on their site, but you might have to look around for it. Generally, if its not in the header of the welcome page, it will be in the footer at the bottom. You must then agree or disagree with the party's stance on that issue.
