Wordle
Answer the questions in RED on your sheet.
One way to understand the important themes of a document is to analyze it with Wordle. Wordle is a tool that takes the most repeated words in a document, enlarges them and creates "word art" from the document. In this activity, we will be looking for the largest word. To create a wordle, one must copy the text of a document into the wordle window and hit: go. Let's do one!
First, open Wordle HERE and click: create.
Now open the Bill of Rights HERE
Now go the bottom and copy the 10 Amendments that make up the Bill of Rights. (If you don't know how, select the text, right click and hit: copy)
Now click over to your wordle window, right click in the large box labeled: Paste a bunch of text, and hit: paste. Now click: Go
1. What are the most important 5 words in the Bill of Rights?
Now open THIS link to the US Constitution. Select all the words on the page (if you don't know how, click: edit and click: select all, then hit: edit again and click: copy) Click "create" at the top of your old Wordle and right click in the large box and select: paste.
2. What are the most important 5 words in the US Constitution?
Next open the Declaration of Independence HERE. Create a Wordle with it and list its five most prominent words.
3. What are the most important 5 words in the Declaration of Independance?
HERE is a section of the City of Buffalo Municipal Code. Open it and create a Wordle. What are the most important five words here?
4. What are the most important 5 words in this section of the City of Buffalo Municipal Code?
5. WITHOUT READING IT what do you think this section of city laws is about?
Ok, now we are going to try out a supreme court case. Click HERE for a transcript of Brown vs. the Board of Ed. Create a Wordle by copying and pasting.
6. If you did not know what the case was about, could you figure out the basics from this wordle? Why or why not?
If you finish early
You can play any of the games below.
