Advanced Personal Training - PT3

  • Welcome!

    Advanced Personal Training 2016-2017

This is the Advanced Personal Training course website. In addition to the links of important information for the students, I will also post other information in hopes to motivate others to become more physically fit.

The goal of this course is to take the final steps required to become a personal trainer.  The third year of this program will continue on with the construction of a firm foundation of health and fitness knowledge including topics such as: body composition, weight management, physical fitness and health, pre-exercise screening, test considerations, creating exercise programming for various fitness targets,  functional training concepts, working with special populations, and ethics and professional behavior.

Personal training labs will take place in the fitness center and in the classroom, where we will participate in various exercise activities to support classroom material.  Students are required to bring and store a change of clothes, socks, and sneakers.

This final year will not lack academic intensity.  Students will be required to participate in 54 hours of professional development.  These hours can be accomplished via a pre-approved internship/job position, attending CTE-approved field trips, and/or participating in the after school teacher/student training program.

By the end of the three year program, students will have an opportunity to earn pre-certification as a Personal Trainer.  This pre-certification will be valid upon completion of the senior year requirements including the required professional development hours and the completion of the NCSF pre-certification exam with an 80% or higher.  This pre-certification will assist in real-world career choices, as gyms are more likely to higher a male or female with credentials. This three year certification preparation also provides a solid foundation of exercise science in preparation for college.

My hopes are that every student uses what they learn from this course to pass on the passion of health and fitness to those they interact with on a daily basis.  "Health coincides with happiness!"

Please review the course syllabus that I have sent home with your child.  You can also access the Student Information Form by clicking on the link on the left.  Please sign and date the Student Information Form and have your child return it to me as soon as possible.

I will be posting the vocabulary for each chapter, along with other vital information that you child will need to know for this course. Feel free to visit this site often to check up on your child and his/her progress in my class.

I will be spending some time getting everything together but would appreciate any suggestions along the way.

There are many areas to the website that I know you will find great value in. My goal is to make the website not just a tool for me, as the teacher, to connect with parents, but also a learning tool and resource for the students.

Attendance is key to the success of your child in this course, so please don't hesitate to contact me if your child will miss class. I am very willing to help students stay current with the lesson material and projects that correlate to them.  I am usually available after school, Monday through Thursday.

I appreciate your support as your child progresses though this three-year course.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
