Do you have an interest in music? J

Then this is the place for you! South Park has the best band in the city of Buffalo! They've won many accolades as well as being a staple at Collage. This band is by far the best you will hear. Band aims to teach students new and important views of music as well as teaching them how music is composed and created.  Not to mention  putting on memorable performances which are really enjoyable to anyone watching or participating!

                                     Developmental Band

This course is designed for students who want to learn to play a musical  instrument. This beginning level band class emphasizes how to read music which prepares the student for Concert Band.  The students meet daily for one period and will receive 1.0 credit at the end of the year upon completing this class.  All students will perform in the annual Spring Concert in May as part of their final grade.  Lessons are offered on the following instruments: oboe, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, tuba, bass guitar, timpani and all percussion instruments.

     Concert Band

Concert Band is offered to those students who have completed at least book 1 of the “Standards of Excellence” Band Method Series (or comparable).  This course also meets daily and upon completion, students will receive 1.0 credit.  The Winter and Spring concerts have become a rich tradition at South Park to showcase those talents.  In addition to in-school concerts, other performances to mention are Holiday concerts at the Broadway Market, City Hall and Collage.

    Marching Band

Members of the Concert Band are also part of the Marching Band.  As an extra activity in band, South Park’s Marching Band is very well known in the community, throughout Western N.Y. and in Canada for various parades.  Some of the parades to mention are: Santa Claus parades in Mississauga Ontario, Niagara-on-the-lake and Hamilton Ontario, Halloween parade in West Seneca, St. Patrick’s Day parade both Downtown and in the 1st Ward and the Homecoming Parades at South Park and at Buffalo State College.

    Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble at South Park is an exciting, high powered, performing group that is considered the pride and joy of South Park High School.  It is open to any Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior band member who is dedicated and talented in taking on the many challenges and styles of Jazz.  Swing, Rock, Funk, Blues or Latin are just a few of the many styles the students learn in addition to jazz improvisation.
