Extracurricular Eligibility

    Students at Burgard High School understand participation in extracurricular activities is a privilege, not a right.  A student’s academic standing and citizenship takes precedent over any involvement in extracurricular activities.  This policy is meant to encourage students who are active in extracurricular programs to maintain their academic and behavior standards.

     

    Students must maintain a 90% attendance rate throughout the school year.

     

    Students must maintain an overall average of 75% in the core subjects required for a NYS high school diploma.  The following subjects are considered CORE subjects:  English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, LOTE, Art, Music, Career and Financial Management, Gym.  Burgard High School does not extend probation courtesies.

     

    Students with an unattended failure from a previous semester course (did not attend summer school) are ineligible to participate in extracurricular programs.

     

    Students must demonstrate appropriate behavior as set forth by the administration of Burgard High School within and outside the learning community.  Appropriate behavior is expected throughout the year and at all times.  This includes fulfilling dress code requirements.

     

    Drug and Alcohol use are strictly prohibited.  Burgard High School has a zero tolerance policy regarding drug and alcohol use.  Students found violating this policy will be immediately removed from the program.

     

    Hazing activities of any type shall be prohibited at all times.  Burgard High School has a zero tolerance policy regarding hazing.  Students found violating this policy will be immediately removed from the program.

     

    Violent actions toward other members of the learning community will not be tolerated.  Students will be immediately removed from the program.

     

    Parents and student athletes must attend a mandatory sports participation informational meeting one time per year.

     

    Students missing classes during a school day, may not participate in the program/sport that day without approval from administration (This includes practice time as well as contests)

     

    Student athletes will report to contests in dress code or sport uniform.  Inappropriate behaviors (Disrespectful or illegal conduct, hats, ill fitted pants, shirts untucked) will not be tolerated.

     

    Ineligibility at the time of tryouts will impact a student’s ability to make the team.
