    PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

It is with great anticipation and excitement that I welcome you to a new school year!  I expect many changes this year, not only because we are Persistently Struggling School, but also in our thoughts about teaching and learning.  Students must be more diligent about being on task in school and completing homework or studying each day.   I want the entire school community to focus on literacy and change the way we work together as a team.  Our students must work diligently to strive for academic excellence!

It is my personal goal as always, to set high academic standards for our children and to provide them with the best education possible.  Therefore; we must encourage our young people to spend less time in front of the television, and more time reading and studying.  In addition, we must work collaboratively with our school community to improve student attendance.    We are expecting to hire a new Community Education Leader to help support students and families in improving attendance.

It is my philosophy that every student can learn and we want to work hard to ensure they are all provided with a sound educational foundation.  We need everyone to work together as we institute grade level teams, and a fundamental plan of action for school improvement this year.  We want our students and parents to become excited about learning again!  Our partner Alfred State has been working with faculty and staff this summer to ensure we have a great start to the new school year.  They have purchased new equipment to upgrade our Auto Shop, Machine Tool Shop, and Welding Shop.  Our new advertising campaign will soon begin; so look for our new motto:  “Watch Us, We’re Focused on the Future!” throughout the city.

Please be mindful that this year we will implement a new Detention Policy for students who arrive to school and/or class late.  I am also attaching the School Supply List so that students are prepared for instruction.   Additionally, I need parental support in enforcing our Cell Phone Policy.  All cell phones must be turned off upon entering the building and placed in student locker.  If a cell phone is confiscated, the student must report to detention to receive it.  After 3 instances of cell phone confiscation, a parent conference will be required.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school at the number on the left.  I look forward to working with all of our families for the 2015- 2016 school year!
