• Attendance Recognition

Recognizing students with good attendance reinforces that strong attendance habits are valued and will lead to academic success. Recognizing students for improved attendance demonstrates a school’s commitment to supporting and celebrating students who are working to develop better attendance habits.

Research suggests that attendance improvement models that recognize student attendance have a positive effect on students’ daily attendance as well as classroom behavior. Simple tokens that serve as acknowledgement,  such as certificates, assemblies, extra recess time, pizza parties, letters, and telephone calls home, go a long way toward motivating students to be in attendance daily.

The Office of Attendance Improvement will provide school staff with weekly, monthly, and semester reports that identify student with perfect and improved attendance as well as attendance recognition certificates, templates for parent communications, and a menu of suggested low-cost/no-cost recognition ideas.
