Dear students and loved ones,
I am excited to meet and work with you and your child this year. I am writing to tell you about my job as an English as a New Language (ENL) teacher, our classroom expectations, and how you can contact me throughout the year.
I am the 6th grade ENL teacher at Frank A. Sedita Academy. For students who are English Language Learners (ELLs), this means that I am one of their teachers. I work with your child’s classroom teacher and with other ELLs. Your child will be taught English language in my class every day as a result of the score they received on the New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners (NYSITELL) or New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT). My role as an ENL teacher includes creating lessons with language goals for improving reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English.
At Frank A. Sedita Academy, student behavior is monitored and managed through our positive behavior intervention system (PBIS). Students can receive Class Dojo points for good behavior. Good behavior includes safe and healthy behavior such as wearing a mask, washing hands, and keeping social distance. Grades are based on student attendance and participation, in-class work, and district assessments each academic quarter. Grades are updated on Infinite Campus. You will have access to your child’s grades through Parent Portal.
If you would like to contact me this year to discuss any concerns, questions, or need help connecting with the class, please send me a message with ClassDojo or TalkingPoints. You can also meet me at Open House, September 22, 2021, 5pm-7pm. You can also visit the school during our first Saturday Academy, September 25, 2021, 10am-1pm.
