Mrs. Susan O'Mara

     Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! I am pleased to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and welcome your student to the seventh grade at Hillery Park Elementary BPS #27.  This will be my 17th year teaching English for the Buffalo Public Schools.  I am a graduate of Buffalo State College with a master’s degree in Educational Computing. I have a New York State teaching certification in English 7-12 Education and Pre-K to 6^th grade Elementary Education. For the past 16 years, I have taught grades 9-12 English at various locations within the BPS district. 

     English is a subject area that incorporates lesson plans in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing.  I am really looking forward to the upcoming school year, building upon the skills students mastered last year, and helping students accomplish new challenges in the language arts subject area.  I feel that a positive learning experience is built on a collaborative effort among parents, student, and teacher, and I welcome your questions and concerns as the year progresses.  

     We have many expectations for our seventh grade students at Hillery Park Elementary. One of the biggest is being responsible for assignments and actions. Your student is responsible for completing and turning in each assignment. Our main platform for learning will be Schoology.  All lessons will be conducted through Schoology however, virtual connection with the teacher will be through Microsoft Teams. There will be more information forthcoming regarding the synchronous lessons and how they will play out on a weekly basis. My weekly lesson plan calendar will be posted on my website. It is my ultimate goal for each of my seventh grade students to experience success and to foster a love of reading and writing. I am thrilled to work with you and your child over the course of the school year. If questions or concerns should arise, please feel free to email or call anytime.
