    Course: Global Studies and Geography 10 based on New York State Common Core Standards and the New York State Social Studies Framework.

     

    Exam requirements: This is a credit recovery repeater Global 10 class. The class will be mainly focused on preparation for the upcoming January Global Studies 10 Regents exam. If you pass two quarters of the class, we will be able to give credit after 20 weeks because it is a repeater course. At the conclusion of this course there is a Regents examination. The Global Studies Regents exam covers material from Global Studies 10 and is a requirement for graduation.  The exam consists of 28 stimulus based multiple choice questions, text based short answer questions (2 Sets), one enduring issue extended essay (5 documents)

     

    Course Overview: The curriculum of this course is intended to provide an opportunity to explore what has happened in various regions and civilizations overtime. This is a writing intensive course, where students will learn inquiry to recognize and apply a set of enduring issues to explain, describe, discuss, compare, contrast, analyze and evaluate various themes, concepts and historical events in a way that will allow an in-depth understanding of current world events. 

     

    Course Outline:

    • The World in 1750 C.E.   -Decolonization and Nationalism
    • Enlightenment/Revolution/Nationalism   -Tensions Between Cultural Traditions and  Modernizations       
    • Imperialism   -Globalization and Changing Environment
    • Unresolved Global Conflict (1914-1945) - Human Rights Violations                             
    • Unresolved Global Conflict (1945-1991)                                                                             

     

    Expectations:

    • Students should be on time and prepared for class every day. This includes completing pre work, charging the laptop the night before and setting up in a non-distracting work environment.
    • Based on Buffalo Public Schools Code of Conduct students will act appropriately in the classroom this includes remotely. (These guidelines will be further explained in class)
    • Students will complete assignments in a timely manner and study for tests and quizzes.

     

    Textbooks:

    World History: Patterns of Interactions, Beck, Roger B., Linda Black, Philip C. Naylor, Dahia Ibo Shabaka, copyright 2007, McDougal- Littell and Evanston, IL.  The electronic version of the textbook can be found on the Buffalo Schools website under “Student Resources”.  The students will receive an access code for the textbook that is available on line.

     

    Grading: The following represents the uniform grading policy, agreed upon by the members of the Social Studies department.

    Schoology: All assignments and notes will be posted on Schoology. It is your responsibility to check your grades on parent portal and complete assignments using Schoology. Late assignments will be accepted and graded accordingly. Parents please have your child share their schoology login with you and check the parent folder weekly for updates.

     

    Teams Meetings:  Student Attendance is required in order to pass the course.
