You are part of a strong team of Buffalo Public School employees dedicated to serving our students and their families.  As we welcome our students back to in-person instruction, your health and safety are paramount.

Teacher Aides and Teaching Assistants are expected to report back to work on September 1, 2021 and will be scheduled for the contractual provision of an 8 hour work day. This provision has been a part of the bargaining agreement and is being instituted to support the safe transition of students to in person learning.  Principals will determine schedules that will support student needs.  Your hours of service are 7:30 to 3:30 everyday.

The Department of Human Resources has created a one-stop resource location to assist with access to helpful information.

Please visit www.buffaloschools.org/hr   and click on Resources to gain access to information such as:

    COVID-19 Reporting Protocols:

    Important Links and Forms

This information will be updated as necessary.  Please make sure you are using the most recent documents.

I tested positive for COVID. What are my next steps?

If you test positive for COVID and/or are mandated to quarantine, please scan or take a picture of the positive test results and/or notice of quarantine and send it to Jamie Warren (Jwarren@buffaloschools.org)  or Tameka Hollie-Mcgee (TJHollieMcgee@buffaloschools.org)  Human Resources will review and provide you with further instructions.  We wish you a speedy recovery!

If you are unable to work, enter illness days into Aesop or EmpCenter and complete the Request Leave Form, and indicate L429 - COVID-19 Paid Sick Leave.  Submit the form, along with a PDF or JPG of your mandate to quarantine, to HRLeaves@buffaloschools.org for processing.  There is a New York State Paid Leave provision that applies up to 10 illness days to employees who either test positive for COVID-19, or who are under mandatory quarantine. Once HR approves your request and documentation, Payroll will restore illness days within 1 -3 pay periods.

If you are not feeling well, the District’s position has always been that you should remain at home in order to take the time to recuperate, and to avoid any potential illnesses entering the work place.

Someone that I was in close proximity to tested positive for COVID.  What are my next steps?

You are to continue to report to work in person unless the Erie County Department of Health issues you a notice to quarantine.  At that time, you follow the steps listed above.

How do I make an appointment for the COVID vaccine?

You can use this website to schedule an appointment at a New York State-run vaccination site. Subject to availability, individuals can walk in at any of the state sites without an appointment and be vaccinated: https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/

I have an appointment for the COVID vaccine.  How do I record that in Aesop or EmpCenter?

Employees have the right to up to four (4) hours of paid time off to receive each COVID-19 vaccination.  Enter your time off into EmpCenter/Aesop as Sick Leave, with a note in the comment section, COVID vaccination.  Print and take the Covid Vaccination Verification Form with you to your appointment for signature.  Submit the form and/or a copy of your Vaccination Card to your timekeeper for accrual adjustment.

I intend to travel domestically.  Am I required to quarantine when returning to New York State?

Domestic travelers will no longer be required to quarantine after entering New York from another U.S. State or U.S. Territory starting April 1, 2021.  You are encouraged to review the NYS COVID-19 Travel Advisory website: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory  for detailed information.

I intend to travel internationally.  Am I required to quarantine when returning to New York State?

Currently, the CDC does not require quarantine, work furlough, or testing requirements for asymptomatic international travelers. However, the CDC and NYS recommend delaying international travel until the traveler is fully vaccinated.  You are encouraged to review the NYS COVID-19 Travel Advisory website: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory  for detailed information.

I am fully vaccinated.  Am I still required to wear a mask?

Individuals should continue strict adherence to all safety guidelines to stop the spread – wearing masks, regular hand washing, socially distancing, and avoiding gatherings.

Please do not reply to this email.  Any inquiries should be directed to your Principal who will reach out to HR for any clarification needed.

    Take care,
