Welcome scholars! My name is Mr. Watkins, and I am currently the 8th grade science teacher at Harvey Austin, along with my co-teachers Mrs. Bernecki (8-1 and Lab) and Ms. Hossain (Lab)! I'm entering my second year here at Harvey Austin and am looking forward to working with students, parents and guardians this school year. I enjoy all things science, science fiction, and fantasy. Additonally, I love technology and building computers and hope to inspire a new generation of scientists, scholars, and engineers!
We will be using the Schoology platform to post assignments, homework, and other resources. The links to classes can be found below. For lab, we will be using the same Schoology page as your normal class.

Lab Syllabus for 8th Grade Lab
All 8th graders are taking regents biology, a high school course, to help prepare them for the high school and so that students have an opportunity of entering high school with a science credit already finished. There are three components to this course: class, lab, and a state cumulative exam at the end of the year. Class and lab are counted as seperate classes and grades do not mix between them. Class is based on a percent out of 100, and lab is a Pass/Fail class.
In order to receive credit for high school, students must:
Pass class with an overall average of at least 65%
Pass lab with at least 1200 lab minutes
Pass the state regents exam in June with at least a 65%
Students will not be admitted to the exam without 1200 lab minutes
