BPS #195 City Honors
City Honors School is a supportive learning community located in the City of Buffalo that provides a culture of collaboration and promotes critical thinking through the International Baccalaureate Program at all grade levels and for all students. By providing an accelerated curriculum and an enriched environment, where international-mindedness is promoted and celebrated, City Honors School endeavors to develop life-long learners who are caring and innovative global citizens.

Families MUST pre-register for testing below. For Student and staff safety, walk-up testing in not available this year.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
BPS STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN GRADES 4, 6, & 8 WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TEST IN THEIR CURRENT SCHOOL.
INFORMATION WILL BE SENT HOME TO PARENTS IN JANUARY, 2022.
IF YOU WISH FOR YOUR BPS CHILD TO PARTICIPATE IN A SATURDAY TESTING DATE, YOU MUST COMPLETE THE APPLICATION.

Application Process
Important! Please read carefully before completing the application.
Eligiblitity
Who can apply?
Your child is eligible to complete an application to test for Frederick Law Olmsted and City Honors if they are:
- A current Buffalo Public School (BPS) student ( Must be a current resident of the City of Buffalo unless identified as a McKinney-Vento Student).
- A NON-BPS student (i.e., those who attend charter, parochial, private schools, or are home schooled) currently residing in the City of Buffalo.
- Currently in grades 4,5,6,7,8 (can test for Frederick Law Olmsted & City Honors).
- Currently in grades 9,10,11 (can test for Frederick Law Olmsted only).
If a student lives in the City of Buffalo, but attending a school located outside of the Buffalo Public School District, you must provide a letter from the student’s current District of enrollment verifying the following information: School District, School Name, Last Name, First Name, Date of Birth, Current Address, Parent/Guardian and Dates of Attendance.
This letter must be attached along with the 2020-2021 final cumulative report card . If this is not attached, the application will be voided. All letters will be verified by a Registration representative from the Office of Student Placement & Registration.
Example; my child resides in the City of Buffalo however, he/she is still in attendance in the Cheektowaga School District, Williamsville School District or NYC School District.
Application Information

- All online applications must be completed and submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on February 4, 2022.
- All paper applications must be completed and submitted at Central Registration no later than 4:00 p.m. on February 4, 2022.
- All students must be pre-registered in order to test as there are limited seats.
- Students are permitted to complete one test per year according to the admissions testing schedule. The same test is used for admissions eligibility to both Frederick Law Olmsted and City Honors Schools; students who complete the admissions testing will automatically be ranked for both schools.
Required Documents
What documents do I need to apply?
- BPS Students
- Complete a 2022-2023 Frederick Law Olmsted and City Honors School application.
- NON-BPS
- Complete a 2022-2023 Frederick Law Olmsted and City Honors School application.
- Submit the required documents outlined below: (all NON-BPS applicants must reside in the City of Buffalo and upload the required documents at the bottom of the application in order to apply for the admissions test):
- Student’s Birth Certificate;
- Photo Identification for parent/guardian;
- (2) Distinct proofs of City of Buffalo residency (Choose 2 different proofs from the list of the 4 below showing your Buffalo address): (1) Parent/guardian New York State driver’s license or non-driver’s license; (2) gas, electric, or cable bill within the last 30 days (only one utility bill can be used); (3) parent/guardian’s pay stub within the last 30 days; or (4) Notice of Decision from the Erie County Department of Social Services from 2021 or 2022;
- Student’s final cumulative report card from 2020-2021;
- Student's 1st quarter report card from 2021-2022 (November 2021);
- Student’s 1st quarter attendance record from 2021-2022 (November 2021);
- Current IEP, 504, or English Language Learner documents, if applicable.
NON-BPS Students: Before completing the application for your child, please ensure you have all the required documents. Applications submitted without the required documents will not be processed and your child will be unable to secure a testing date.
Application Submission
Applications submitted after 11:59 p.m. on February 4, 2022 will not be accepted for processing.

Complete Application Via Paper
Note: All paper applications must be submitted in person on or before February 4, 2022 to Central Registration, 33 Ash Street, Buffalo, New York 14204 - Monday- Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
After Submission
What happens after my child’s application is submitted?
- All applicants will receive an automatic confirmation dialog box indicating their application was submitted to Student Placement & Registration.
- Once your child’s application and/or documents have been reviewed by a Student Placement & Registration Representative, you will be contacted to schedule a testing date.
Application Tips:
#1 - Please double check your email address to ensure it is correct before submitting your application.
#2 - Please check your email account and telephone voicemail daily. Once your application has been received and verified, a scheduling representative will contact you to schedule testing.
What are the next steps after my child has tested?

Application Reminder: If you move to a new address or change your telephone number during the application & admissions process, please notify Student Placement & Registration at bpsschoolchoiceapplication@buffaloschools.org with the updated information.
