Cala, Elena - Message From Dr. Cash -

The Buffalo Public School District and the Buffalo Police Department are aware of an anonymous general threat communicated through Tik Tok against all schools identifying Friday, December 17, 2021, as National School Shooting Day. Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash has spoken with Mayor Brown, who pledged that the BPD will be on full alert with support. The Buffalo Police Department continues to work with BPS to support the safety of our students and staff.  We will conduct random wanding at the start of all schools tomorrow and wand all latecomers per policy. As always, we urge anyone with information that could impact the safety of our school community to immediately dial 911 and report it.

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and School Staff:

Numbers of COVID-19 cases in the City of Buffalo are continuing to increase! The tentative start date for the new COVID-19 testing program is December 13, 2021.

COVID-19 testing is a great way to monitor and contain the spread of the virus.  The Buffalo Public Schools in partnership with the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH), Buffalo Homecare, Inc., and Quadrant Biosciences, Inc. Laboratory is pleased to offer high quality on school site optional COVID-19 random surveillance testing.

COVID-19 testing will be for any staff or student who consents to participate, regardless of their vaccination status.

Testing will occur weekly and will consists of a random selection of 10% of the consenting school population. This program uses an oral (mouth) PCR test swab that will be gentle, minimally invasive, and can be self-collected by the person being tested.

Anyone vaccinated or unvaccinated who consents can be tested in the surveillance testing program. Prior to this tentative start date, if you choose to participate in the optional testing program, please follow the steps outlined below by ECDOH, in order to ensure that you are correctly enrolled in this program.

Step 1: Watch the ECDOH Program Overview Presentation:

Step 2: Register with and complete the Quadrant Program Consent Form:

It is important to note that our testing program will not fulfill the New York State Department of Health’s requirement for unvaccinated staff to be tested weekly.

Thank you for working with us to quickly re-establish a school testing program to help fulfill our goal of keeping our buildings safe and open for instruction.

    December 2, 2021

    Dear Staff, Students & Parents,

Be advised there was a person in our school that tested positive for COVID-19. This person was last on school premises on 11/29/21. The school will remain OPEN during this time.  This will be reported on our 12/2/21 Daily COVID Report Card.

We are working closely with the Erie County Department of Health to identify anyone who had close contact with the person to determine if they might have been exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19. If you or your child are identified as having been potentially exposed, the Erie County Department of Health will contact you and instruct you what to do. If you are not contacted by the health department, you do not need to stay home or exclude yourself from activities at this time.

Individuals should continue to monitor their health and the health of their families for COVID-19 symptoms. Those who become ill should contact their healthcare provider, who will determine appropriate care and whether testing is necessary. If you have been exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19, please report this to your school. This information will be kept confidential.

Schools continue to utilize protocols to reduce viral transmission and keep our children and school personnel healthy and safe.

Please be assured that the district and the Erie County Department of Health will be monitoring the situation very closely to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

    Sincerely,

    Principal Vitale
