Academic Supports at NPCS

Enrichment

  • NPCS has two periods (Literacy & Math)   per day beginning in grade 1 where students are able to work with a teacher and their peers who are at similar readiness levels. Kindergarten students participate one period per day for Literacy in small readiness level groups.

During this time, students who show a readiness level of above grade level work on activities that expand their thinking and problem-solving skills in a multitude of ways. During this time, students participate in enrichment activities including Math Olympiad, coding/robotics/creation in the Steam Lab, applying creativity to research projects in the Art Room, and much more.

Intervention

  • Buffalo Public Schools provides in depth training to all staff about proper intervention materials and strategies. These strategies are applied during the small group blocks we have built into our schedule (RTI).

Interventions are also provided to students during whole group instruction. Students are pulled in small groups to work with the teacher based on skills they are showing they need more assistance. The workshop style strategies have proven to be successful for students.
