Welcome to 6th Grade Math!

  •
My name is Mrs. Koscielski and I am the 6th Grade Math teacher at P.S. #81. This is my 8th year teaching for the Buffalo Public Schools. For the past 7 years I have been teaching at P.S. #81 where I have taught both 6th grade math and Junior High Math for the 7th and 8th grade students.  This school year I would like all of my 6th grade students and their families to use this website as a resource for class materials, online video tutorials, websites that can provide support for the Common Core Learning Standards, and lastly as an essential tool for communication between school and home if you are absent from class.
For the 2015 - 2016 school year, all students in Grade 6 will have all three General Education teachers as our grade level will be departmentalizing.  I will be teaching Math to all 6th grade students, Mrs. Dmoch will be teaching English Language Arts to all 6th grade students, and a new teacher to our building will be teaching both Social Studies and Science to all 6th grade students.  Students will travel to each class as a homeroom and will have three 60-minute time blocks with each teacher every day. Additionally, students will also have one 45 minute differentiation period (4 times per week) to focus on remediation in both ELA and Mathematics.
My goal for this year is to provide each 6th grade student an educationally stimulating and productive learning environment that will foster success and life-long learning of mathematics.  Mathematics is a subject that students will often shy away from with the idea that they "aren't good" at math.  In my classroom, all students will be able to learn math using a wide variety of instructional strategies and explicit instruction of the Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics.  Using visual, digital, and cooperative learning tools, students will engage in lessons that will provide specific notes that can be used at home, as well as practice that will be developed based on students' prior knowledge and instruction from previous school years.
My classroom website contains a wide array of resources ranging from policies and procedures to class materials to video tutorials.  I encourage both students and parents to "surf" around and see what there is to offer. Along with mathematics curriculum resources, you will also find pertinent grade level and school information.
I hope that you will find the information on this website useful.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school at (716) 816-4060 or e-mail me at eakoscielski@buffaloschools.org.

    Happy Learning!
    Mrs. K
