           Welcome Families!

Welcome to the K-8th Grade Artroom at B.U.I.L.D. Academy #91!

I am an art teacher and artist who especially loves sculpture, printmaking,  painting, and ceramics. I create jewelry & sculpture to sell at summer craft festivals such as Allentown Arts Festival and the Elmwood Avenue Festival .

Recent Grants for Art projects that we have received are:

    • 2012 Artist in Every Classroom Bookarts Grant
    • 2012 Storyboards and Videography Grant
    • 2011 BUATA Silk Scarf Painting Grant
    • 2011 CEPA Writing With Light Photography and Poetry Grant
    • 2010 Griffis Courtyard Sculpture Grant
    • 2009 B.U.I.L.D.  Pictures and Poetry Quilt

Our 4th graders were the first students in the Buffalo City School District to spend a day at the Roycroft Campus in East Aurora. This is the birthplace of the Arts and Crafts movement in America, illuminated by Elbert Hubbard's arts community in the early 1900's. We also have been on field trips to the Burchfield Penney Arts Center and Albright Knox Art Gallery. The staff at every field trip destination has always complimented the respectful behaviors of our students!

Empty Bowls is a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Western New York. Artists here at B.U.I.L.D.  have created bowls with tackboard, paint and other materials to donate for the auctions held at the Burchfield Penney Arts Center.

Our Buffalo Community will revitalize our city over the coming years. Our arts community is part of this revitalization. The
grants  earned through the Coalition of the Arts for Children allow us to work with the CEPA Gallery, its talented photographers and education director, Lauren Tent, a fabric artist from Rochester, Carl Wolf, and a renowned Western New York sculptor Simon Griffis with his outstanding assistants.

Other visiting aritsts working with our students include Chris Fritten from Book Arts,  Jackie Alberella, a regional photographer and videographer, and Ginny Lohr, artist and education director of the Anderson Gallery.

The encore team has hosted  fall Walk-A-Thons. Art and Music collaborate on 4th grade instrument sculptures.

My long term goal is to enlighten the significance of visual and performing art in our lives. Almost anything manmade is created by some kind of designer craftsman, or artist!

I can always find time to work with young artists on their sketchbooks. And I formally invite family members to enjoy an art class. Let me know if you would like to share some Art time and participate in a project. Our students are proud to have you with us! I can meet with families after school. Just call so we can set up some time. Our main office # is: 816-4140.

The Elmwood Avenue Festival sets up a terrific childrens' tent with free art activities and a projects that culminate in a parade through the art show on Sunday. This show is full of diverse music, dance, face painting, and artists' works for sale. The festival site  is at the end of August on Elmwood between West Ferry and Lafayette.  I hope to see you at our festivals here in Buffalo this summer!

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Robin Yates
